With an aging population and increasing chronic disease rates, it seems like now is the perfect time for such a program. What current trends are you seeing in the industry when it comes to designing for chronic illness? GUEST: There's a growing emphasis on user-centered design and inclusivity. Designers are starting to recognize the importance of understanding and catering to the diverse needs of users, including those with chronic illnesses. HOST: That's great to hear. However, I imagine there must be some challenges in teaching this subject or implementing these designs in the real world. Can you share any obstacles you've encountered? GUEST: One challenge is changing the mindset of designers who may not have considered chronic illnesses in their work before. It requires fostering empathy and encouraging a shift in perspective. But once they see the impact of their work, it's incredibly rewarding. HOST: I can imagine. Looking towards the future, how do you envision the role of design in improving the lives of those with chronic illnesses? GUEST: I believe design will play an increasingly critical role in creating supportive solutions that enable people with chronic illnesses to live fuller, more independent lives.
